ABOUT THE EVENT

The International Conference and Exhibition is a significant intervention designed to support a smooth transition to post Boko Haram Insurgency era. It prioritised the involvement of community stakeholders, especially the communities most affected by the Boko Haram Insurgency in creating stable communities, sustaining peace and contributing in producing food and cash crops, and redirecting energies of the surrendered Boko Haram Insurgents away from radicalisation and violence. Importantly, it creates sustainable means of livelihood to communities most affected and contribute to the economy of the Northeast region of Nigeria.

Executive Governor of Borno State

Babagana Umara Zulum is a Professor of Engineering and the Executive Governor of Borno State since 2019. He has a diverse career background including civil service, academia and politics. He served as University lecturer where he rose to the rank of Professor at University of Maiduguri. He was former Rector of Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri and later appointed Commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement by the then Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, a position he held to 2018. He is Member of the National Institute (Mni) and recipient of national merit award Commander of the Niger (CON) and Grand Commander of the Niger (GCON) awarded by Republic of Niger. He is known for his drive and passion for the development of Borno State.

Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Mni

National Security Adviser, Office of the National Security Adviser

Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Mni, is a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police. He is National Security Adviser and senior official in the cabinet of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Federal Republic of Nigeria. He manages national security on behalf of the President and serves as his chief advisor on all matters that are vital to the very survival of the state. In this role, he oversees Nigeria’s domestic and international security needs and commitments, supervise the various military chiefs, and regularly report to the president. He was former Chairman of the Petroleum Special Revenue Task Force from 2012 to 2014 and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from 2003 to 2007. Over the years, the African Union, World Bank, and United Nations appointed Ribadu to boards and committees on recovery of stolen assets.

Expected Outcomes of the International Conference and Exhibition

Secure high-level commitment and willingness of the sub national Governments in the Northeast region to key into the proposed Presidential Amnesty Programme and use agro entrepreneur production to fast track smooth transition to post Boko Haram insurgency era.

The experiences of civil military negotiations that ended the Nigerian civil war and ending the Colombia insurgency provides key lessons and guidance for thought leaders and intellectual stakeholders to support negotiation and healing processes, accommodate and tolerate the surrendered Boko Haram insurgents for peace and stability to return to the Northeast region.

Secure agricultural equipment supports and technical assistance on mechanised farming, access to, information on selected agricultural product, new varieties of food crops for export and agro credit facilities to support implementation of proposed Presidential Amnesty Programme for smooth transition to the post Boko Haram insurgency era in the Northeast region.

The event highlights potential areas of bilateral relations on international trade, agricultural co-operations and exchange to support the implementation of the proposed Presidential Amnesty Programme.

The initial discussions by the Northeast Governors Forum on commitments made for provision of the selected equipment support and technical assistance or new varieties of crop, and setting up of social reorientation mechanism for awareness creation on the proposed Presidential Amnesty Programme, its implementation processes and benefits to the Northeast region realised.

The event is a conscious efforts by Stevico Agro Entrepreneur Nigeria Plc (SAENPLC) and Centre for Peace, Diplomatic and Development Studies (CPDDS) University of Maiduguri engaging Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA), International and National Thought Leaders, Intellectual Stakeholders, Security Agencies in bringing back balance, harmony and social cohesion in the areas most affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast region of Nigeria.
